Liz Quam, Past President of MRHA, staffs the MRHA Exhibit at the MN Rural Health Conference June 23-24, 2008.

MDH Office of Rural Health and Primary Care Director Mark Schoenbaum (r-center) and former MRHA presidents Liz Quam (left) and Gary Wingrove (far right) participated with U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar in a press conference on April 20.  It took place outside the emergency department at Hennepin County Medical Center.  All four are supporting a measure that would encourage educational credits for returning veterans who have been trained as medics while in the armed forces.  Senator Klobuchar is the chief author of the legislation.

About MRHA
The Minnesota Rural Health Association (MRHA) was created in 1994 with the help of the Minnesota Department of Health's Office of Rural Health, Minnesota Rural Partners and the Minnesota Center for Rural Health. The impetus for the creation of MRHA was a series of discussions and focus groups that identified the need for an organization that advocated for rural health issues.

MRHA is a membership organization that exists to help rural citizens, health care providers and organizations learn about how public policy issues may affect them and to teach them how to advocate for their interests.  MRHA itself is truly a rural organization with board and staff who themselves live and work in rural communities.

Mission
The mission of MRHA is to bring together diverse interests to address rural health issues and to advocate for and with rural Minnesotans.   The goal of MRHA is to strengthen rural voices on health care issues by listening and educating people / organizations about the impact of public policy relating to health care in rural Minnesota. MRHA seeks to give voice to rural Minnesota about health care policies that will protect and enhance accessibility, affordability and quality of health care.
